AdventHealth Shawnee Mission embarked on a journey to transform the first floor of the original hospital tower. These tired spaces were identified as a priority to improve departmental efficiencies; enhance staff, patient and visitor outlook; and increase overall facility performance.
The project started with the relocation and modernization of Central Processing, creating a circular format for smooth transitions and streamlining work flows.
The area previously occupied by Central Processing was brought to life as Harvest Kitchen with live-action stations offering fresh, made-to-order items. It also includes multiple dining areas with a contemporary restaurant ambiance, a new Mother Earth Coffee location, and a cyber cafe area with charging stations and USB ports.
The original vacated cafeteria was converted to a state-of-the-art conference center to be used for both internal and external training and community education.
Throughout the project, the design team held regular meetings with leadership and night shift staff to make sure all needs were met. Despite the challenges of multiple phases in an operating facility, we were able to complete the project on time and on budget.

AdventHealth embarked on a journey to transform the first floor of the original hospital tower. These tired spaces were all identified as a priority to improve departmental efficiencies; enhance staff, patient, and visitor outlook; and increase overall facility performance.
The project started with the relocation and modernization of Central Processing. The new space was designed in a circular format for smooth transistions throughout the process thus streamlining work flows.
The area previously occupied by Central Processing was then brought to life as Harvest Kitchen – a new innovative solution to the stereotypical hospital cafeteria and nutritional services. The creation of Harvest Kitchen gave the Medical Center a centralized focal point and gathering place.
The original vacated cafeteria was then renovated and converted to a state-of-the-art conference center, available for internal and external training and community education.
Throughout the project the design team held regular meetings with leadership as well as with night shift staff to make sure all needs were met. Despite the challenges of multiple phases in an operating facility, we were able to complete the project on time and on budget.
