description

Capital City High School is the second comprehensive high school for the growing capitol city of Missouri. The community’s first significant public high school project since the mid-60’s, Capital City High School allowed the District to dream of a new framework for their educational facilities. The same framework was then used to establish the design for the renovations at the existing Jefferson City High School, completing the transformation for all high school students in Jefferson City.

Teamed with The Architects Alliance and DLR Group, ACI Boland acted as the consulting Architect of Record. At CCHS, ACI Boland designed and executed a complex building code response to the design intent, delivering openness and natural light through the depth of a square, efficient plan. The light-filled atrium allows even interior classrooms and flexible learning spaces access to natural light.

A unique auxiliary gym seating arrangement contributes to the compactness of the PE complex. The floor seating is only 136 of the 260+ seats and is retractable to expand the PE space. An upper set of 131 seats is entered off the upper-level concourse and main school commons. This allows administrators to keep spectators off the floor, if the lower deck seats are not needed.
