The Districts new Center for Academic Achievement will house a mixture of staff and students that are currently spread throughout the district. The mission of the building is one that supports collaboration, a healthy atmosphere and is environmentally sustainable. To this end, the administrative and support staff will share space with students participating in signature programs such as Culinary Arts, Bio-Chemistry, Project Lead the Way and Bio Medical.
The center will feature abundant daylight to all of its 300 users. Ecological features such as rain water harvesting will help supplement irrigation. A vertical garden green wall will provide herbs to the culinary program as well as be a demonstration of hydroponic gardening and low water usage.
The building is designed to foster open discussion and sharing of ideas and concepts, the spaces will be adaptable as programs evolve and program needs change over the years. Demountable walls, a raised floor system with displacement air system will aid in healthier indoor air quality and comfort. Meeting and conference rooms will provide technology-rich environments featuring wireless media collaboration and floor to ceiling writable surfaces. Furniture that is flexible to the need and uses of each space will be integrated with power and data connections.
Health & Wellness are important aspects and the center will have many spaces and initiatives to reinforce the district's goal of becoming a leader. A wellness center for all staff will be available for exercise and wellness training and will be open extended hours for their use. A health clinic on site for the entire district will facilitate in treating medical issues as a type of first response or urgent care basis. Staff and students will be able to take advantage of the on site Cafe serving healthy breakfast and lunch options. Stairs are featured and elevators minimized to foster cardiovascular movement through the day.
The site will have integrated walking trails connecting the surrounding neighborhood and Antioch Park to the northwest.
